Synopsis

The final Tales of the New Management novel centres on Eve Starkey. Her former employer Rupert de Montfort Bigge, presumed lost, may not be dead after all, and Eve badly wants him to be, since his death would void the binding marriage contract he tricked her brother Imp into signing. When Rupert reveals his plan to depose the god who rules Britain, believing Eve to be under his control, she follows him along the dream paths and finds herself in an 1816 version of Portmeirion modelled on The Prisoner, cast as Number Six. To stop his schemes she has to escape and reach Regency London, where characters from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and John Polidori's The Vampyre cross her path, while Imp and the thief-taker Wendy Deere return as well.

Notes

  • From the series record (Tales of the New Management): Spin-off trilogy set in the same world after the main crisis, following ordinary people in the Britain ruled by Prime Minister Fabian Everyman.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
