Synopsis

Singled out for promotion after his performance in the field, Bob Howard is assigned to investigate Raymond Schiller, an American televangelist preaching a prosperity gospel who is building influence in Britain. Because the Laundry cannot move against him openly, Bob works alongside outside help: Persephone Hazard, a freelance witch and secret agent, and Peter Wilson, a vicar who is an expert on biblical apocrypha. Together they discover that Schiller serves an extremely dangerous entity and is working to bring about the end of the world. Stross wrote the book in the manner of Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise novels, and it won the 2013 Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
