Synopsis
Queen of Shadows is the fourth book in Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series. Aelin Galathynius, once known as the assassin Celaena Sardothien, returns to the empire that destroyed her kingdom years earlier, determined to reclaim her throne and free those she loves from its grip. On arriving, she learns that her cousin Aedion faces execution within days, and reconnects with former allies Chaol Westfall and Nesryn Faliq despite the strain their past choices have placed on those relationships. Aelin sets herself three goals: rescue Aedion, restore the magic the king has suppressed, and begin building the alliances she will need to challenge the brutal king who has enslaved her people. Navigating old grudges, uncertain loyalties, and the empire's underground resistance, she works to turn scattered allies into a force capable of standing against the crown.

Notes
- From the series record (Throne of Glass): Tower of Dawn is an interquel running concurrently with events late in Empire of Storms/before Kingdom of Ash, hence internal chronology 5.5 rather than a plain integer, following a companion-volume convention already used elsewhere in this canon.
