Synopsis
Shadowrise is the third novel in the Shadowmarch quartet, following Shadowplay. As the kingdom of Southmarch comes under growing threat from the Shadowlands, Barrick Eddon, heir to the March throne, crosses into that perilous realm to honor a pact with the Twilight people that may be the kingdom's only hope of avoiding full-scale war. His twin sister Briony, meanwhile, faces betrayal at the royal court of Tessis and is forced to flee with the aid of an unlikely ally. In Southmarch itself, Captain Ferras Vansen tries to convince the formidable Qar commander Yasammez that the fragile peace between their peoples still holds, even as the city comes under siege from multiple directions and old truths about the long war between humans and Qar begin to surface.
