Synopsis

Shakti, the second novel in Les Sentiers des Astres, opens directly from the cliffhanger of Manesh, with nine survivors, seven men, a woman and a child, led by the bard Fintan Calathynn, trapped in the Teules cave and surrounded by hostile forces known as the children of the ermine and their giant allies. The group must find a way out of the boreal forest of Vyanthryr while being actively hunted, before the story shifts to trace the earlier history of Shakti, a mysterious courtesan whose personal past turns out to be closely tied to the wider mythology and quest running through the series. The novel interweaves this pursuit narrative with Shakti's backstory as the survivors work their way back toward their original goal of reaching the King-Speaker.
