Synopsis
Smolder is the twenty-ninth novel in the Anita Blake series. Anita Blake, a federal marshal and necromancer, is in the midst of planning her wedding to the vampire Jean-Claude while continuing to manage her relationships with several other partners in St. Louis. The preparations are interrupted when an ancient evil emerges with designs on Jean-Claude's unique mystical connection to every vampire in America, a bond that, if exploited, could give the attacker unprecedented power over the vampire community nationwide. To meet the threat, Anita must join with Jean-Claude and werewolf pack leader Richard to form a triumvirate, combining their separate powers into a single defensive force. As the three navigate old tensions between them in order to work together, political pressures among the city's competing supernatural factions add further strain to an already difficult defense.
