Synopsis
Thomas Ward is now the County's spook and has an apprentice of his own to train in the work of fighting the Dark. When a new enemy rises in the north, Tom leaves home to help lead a resistance against an army of beasts that aims to hold the whole world in an endless winter. The cold is already creeping south, and the County is not ready. Things go badly wrong, and the people who were relying on Tom are left in despair. The question facing those who remain is who can carry on the fight, and how little time they have before the army reaches the County's borders.
