Synopsis

Claire Hansen is a Keeper, a member of the select hereditary order that keeps the universe in one piece by sealing up the places where the Darkness and the Light seep into the world, and she goes where she is summoned. Her latest summoning, with her opinionated talking cat Austin in tow, leads to a run-down bed-and-breakfast in Kingston, Ontario, whose former owner, a Keeper gone bad, is sealed in Room Six in a magical sleep, directly above a hole leading to Hell. Claire inherits the guest house, its handsome and unflappable Newfoundland handyman Dean, its sleazy ghost and the seal, and while she tries to work out how to close the site, the Darkness down the hole does everything it can to get out, starting with tempting the guests. The first book of a cheerfully absurd trilogy.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Keeper's Chronicles): Tanya Huff's comic urban fantasy of the Keepers, a hereditary order who keep the universe in one piece by fixing the places where the Darkness and the Light leak into the world, as seen by Claire Hansen, her talking cat Austin and the guest house in Kingston, Ontario, that sits on a hole to Hell.
