Synopsis

Sean Evans's old friend and mentor, the werewolf arms dealer Wilmos, has been kidnapped, and the trail leads to the Archivarius, an entity that can answer any question and that will not grant an audience to anyone less than a head of state. The only way to reach it is to host a spousal selection for the Sovereign of the Dominion: a galactic tournament in which a dozen candidates from a dozen species compete, under cameras watched by billions, for the hand of an emperor who does not want to marry. Dina, Sean, Maud, Arland and the inn's growing household must keep the candidates, their retinues and their assassins alive through weeks of ceremony and sabotage at the Gertrude Hunt, while Dina's own questions about her vanished parents come closer to an answer. The sixth and, so far, last Innkeeper novel.

Notes

  • From the series record (Innkeeper Chronicles): Dina DeMille, innkeeper of the Gertrude Hunt, a sentient bed-and-breakfast in Texas that is secretly a way-stop for galactic travellers. Set in the same world as The Edge: George, Jack and Gaston of the Edge novels join the cast from the second book. Serialised free online before each volume's publication; a final volume is still planned.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Innkeeper Chronicles: position 6 of 6: previous Sweep with Me (2020)
  • Internal chronology, within The Edge / Innkeeper Chronicles: position 11 of 11: previous Sweep with Me (2020)
