Synopsis
A short novel set during the Treaty Stay, the oldest of innkeeper holidays, when an inn is honour-bound to accept every guest who asks for shelter and to refuse none. Dina DeMille and Sean Evans are preparing the Gertrude Hunt for an official review by the Innkeeper Assembly, which will decide the inn's standing, when the holiday brings guests no innkeeper would choose: a philosophically inclined, highly dangerous visitor whose species is barely known, a party of Koo-ko whose arguments turn to bloodshed, and a situation outside the inn that threatens to expose the whole hidden system of inns to the people of Red Deer, Texas. With the Assembly's assessor watching, Dina must keep every guest alive and every rule of the Treaty, and the inn's secret, through the three days of the Stay.
