Synopsis

The fourth Innkeeper novel is the first told from a point of view other than Dina's: her sister Maud, rescued with her small daughter Helen from a vampire planet in One Fell Sweep. Maud was the wife of a vampire, learned their forms of combat, their languages and their customs, and was treated for her trouble as a curiosity and a pawn in her husband's ambition; by the time she escaped she was done with vampires. Now Arland, Marshal of House Krahr and the one vampire she might trust, asks her to come to his home planet and stand beside him at a complex inter-species negotiation, where a conspiracy is forming against his house. A daughter of innkeepers who knows hospitality as a weapon, Maud must decide how far to let a vampire court, and a vampire, back into her life.

Notes

  • From the series record (Innkeeper Chronicles): Dina DeMille, innkeeper of the Gertrude Hunt, a sentient bed-and-breakfast in Texas that is secretly a way-stop for galactic travellers. Set in the same world as The Edge: George, Jack and Gaston of the Edge novels join the cast from the second book. Serialised free online before each volume's publication; a final volume is still planned.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Innkeeper Chronicles: position 4 of 6: previous One Fell Sweep (2016) · next Sweep with Me (2020)
  • Internal chronology, within The Edge / Innkeeper Chronicles: position 9 of 11: previous Steel's Edge (2012) · next Sweep with Me (2020)
