Synopsis

Charlotte de Ney, a blueblood healer of the Weird whose magic can cure or kill, retreats to the Edge after a devastating betrayal and a divorce, hoping to live quietly, until slavers raid the Edge settlement where she has found a home and she turns her gift to killing for the first time. Richard Mar, the quiet, lethal swordsman of the Mar clan, has spent years hunting the slaver ring that reaches into the highest families of Adrianglia, and the two join forces to destroy it from the Edge to the aristocratic salons of the Weird, where Charlotte must play the noblewoman she once was. The fourth and last Edge novel brings together the series' cast, including George and Jack Drayton, the boys of On the Edge, and closes the sequence whose characters later reappear in the Innkeeper Chronicles.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Edge): Four novels set in the Edge, the strip of land between the Broken (our mundane world) and the Weird (a world of magic and blueblood aristocracy), each centred on a different couple of the Edger clans and the Weird's spy service.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Edge: position 4 of 4: previous Fate's Edge (2011)
  • Internal chronology, within The Edge / Innkeeper Chronicles: position 8 of 11: previous One Fell Sweep (2016) · next Sweep of the Blade (2019)
