Synopsis

Audrey Callahan left behind her life in the Edge, where her family used her gift for opening locks to make her their thief, and she is determined to stay on the straight and narrow in the Broken, working for a private investigator. But when her brother gets into hot water, her father talks her into one last heist, and the former thief finds herself matching wits with a jack of all trades: Kaldar Mar, the gambling, charming rogue of the Mar clan from Bayou Moon, now an agent of Adrianglia's Mirror and sent to recover the dangerous object Audrey stole, before the enemy nation's spies use it. The chase runs from the Edge to the Weird and back, with the two young Drayton boys from On the Edge along as unexpected passengers, and with Audrey and Kaldar each discovering that the other is a better match than any mark.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Edge): Four novels set in the Edge, the strip of land between the Broken (our mundane world) and the Weird (a world of magic and blueblood aristocracy), each centred on a different couple of the Edger clans and the Weird's spy service.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Edge: position 3 of 4: previous Bayou Moon (2010) · next Steel's Edge (2012)
  • Internal chronology, within The Edge / Innkeeper Chronicles: position 6 of 11: previous Sweep in Peace (2015) · next One Fell Sweep (2016)
