Synopsis

The Adversary is the concluding volume of the Saga of Pliocene Exile, bringing the human-Tanu-Firvulag conflict in prehistoric Europe to its climax. With the Firvulag having come close to permanently defeating the Tanu, the fragile order among the three peoples is more unstable than ever. Marc Remillard's rebellion against the established order continues to take shape in this changed political landscape, drawing in exiles who must decide where their loyalties lie as the consequences of earlier books' upheavals continue to unfold. The novel also revisits the exiles' original point of arrival, as the possibility of a gate back to the twenty-first century reenters the story, tying the saga's opening premise to its final stretch as the long-building conflict among humans and the two alien races moves toward resolution.
