Synopsis

The Awakened Mage, published by Karen Miller in 2005, concludes the Kingmaker, Kingbreaker duology. Gar now sits on the throne of Lur despite being magicless himself, while Asher, the fisherman-turned-palace-aide from the first book, has begun to manifest extraordinary magical abilities that mark him as the Innocent Mage foretold in old prophecy. Their long friendship comes under severe strain as Gar's resentment of magic he cannot wield collides with Asher's uncertain new powers, even as the kingdom faces a graver threat: a magical seed planted years earlier by the exiled sorcerer Morg, poised to unleash catastrophe at the worst possible moment. With enemies including the ambitious, prejudiced Conroyd Jarralt working against them from within, Asher turns to allies such as Dathne and the secretive Circle in hopes of averting the disaster Morg has set in motion.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
