Overview
Kingmaker, Kingbreaker is Karen Miller's secondary-world epic fantasy sequence following Asher, a fisherman's son from the isolated kingdom of Lur who is drawn, against his will, into protecting a prince and a kingdom whose ancient magical barrier against the outside world is failing. The original duology, The Innocent Mage and The Awakened Mage (both 2005), tells Asher's own complete story. A sequel duology, Fisherman's Children (The Prodigal Mage, 2009, and The Reluctant Mage, 2010), continues the tale a generation later through Asher's children, and a standalone prequel, A Blight of Mages (2012), is set generations before the original duology.

Rule: Core Canon = the original Kingmaker, Kingbreaker duology (The Innocent Mage, The Awakened Mage), a complete, self-contained arc on its own. The Fisherman's Children sequel duology and the standalone prequel A Blight of Mages are Expanded Canon: later, separately-published continuations, not required to follow Asher's own complete story.
