Synopsis

The Bitter Twins continues directly from the first Winnowing Flame novel: the Jure'lia have returned in force, and Tormalin, Noon and Vintage must rally a new generation of war-beasts, magically grown creatures far younger and less experienced than the legendary ones that fought the invaders in ages past. The three companions, now bound together by shared danger and uncertain trust, set out to find a remote, uncharted island rumored to hold knowledge that could help unite these war-beasts into an effective defense. Meanwhile, Tormalin's sister Hestillion, left behind in Ebora, wrestles with her own ambitions and grief as the city's fate hangs in the balance. The novel follows both threads as the widening war forces its characters to confront questions of loyalty, identity and what they are willing to sacrifice to protect what remains of their world.
