Synopsis

The Champion of Garathorm continues Dorian Hawkmoon's story after the memory loss and temporal upheaval of Count Brass. With the aid of the wandering companion Jhary-a-Conel, Hawkmoon's spirit is drawn into the fate of Ilian, ruler of the embattled realm of Garathorm, who is herself another incarnation of the Eternal Champion. Hawkmoon lends his strength to Ilian's defense of Garathorm against the machinations of the sorcerer Baron Kalan, in a conflict that spans the layered worlds of Moorcock's Multiverse. Through this intervention, threads separated by the earlier Time Wind begin to reconnect, and Yisselda, who fights alongside Ilian, is ultimately reunited with Hawkmoon. The novel deepens the series' exploration of the Eternal Champion concept, showing how different heroes across different worlds are bound together by shared destiny.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Chronicles of Castle Brass): Dorian Hawkmoon's own sequel trilogy, continuing directly after The History of the Runestaff tetralogy (SER, Core Canon, internal chronology 1-4). Registered Expanded Canon rather than folded into Core, per the explicit reasoning already on file at Hawkmoon's own admission: this trilogy deepens/crosses over more explicitly with other Eternal Champion incarnations than the tightly-scoped original tetralogy -- its climax (The Quest for Tanelorn) involves Erekose and the entity that inhabited Elric's Stormbringer (Elric Saga). Resolves a previously flagged standing lead.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
