Synopsis
Ten years have passed since General Damastes swore loyalty to the wizard Tenedos and to his promise of a united, peaceful Numantia. Tenedos now rules as emperor, but peace has not come. The provinces were taken by force, peasant revolts have been put down harshly, and outlaw sorcerers are hunted and killed. Now the emperor is raising a huge army to fight a much larger kingdom. Damastes, who has served him through everything, tries to prevent the coming catastrophe. In doing so he begins to uncover disturbing secrets about the man he follows and about the bargain that gave Tenedos his throne. The sequel to The Seer King continues Damastes' account of the emperor's reign.
