Synopsis
About a year after the events of the previous book, the sorceress Melina Shield, already discredited for her earlier schemes, uses her power over other people's minds to marry the ruler of New Kelvin. She also still hunts for forbidden ancient magic. The leaders of the royal beasts, the animals who watch over this world, assign Firekeeper and her wolf companion Blind Seer to stop her. The task takes them back into the intrigues of human courts, where Firekeeper must rely on what she learned among the wolves as well as on what she has since learned about people. Her aim is to end Melina's rise and restore peace before the magic Melina seeks can be used.
