Synopsis
Having been recognized as Car'a'carn, the prophesied chief of the Aiel, by several of their clans, Rand al'Thor now faces the difficult task of uniting the remaining clans against a growing threat, including a rebellious faction known as the Shaido, led by Couladin, who refuses to accept an outsider as their leader. At the same time, the White Tower has fractured after the Amyrlin Seat, Siuan Sanche, is deposed by the ambitious Elaida, scattering loyalties among the Aes Sedai and separating Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne as they pursue different paths. A member of the Forsaken, Rahvin, has meanwhile seized control of the kingdom of Andor, posing a direct threat to those close to Rand. As Rand works to consolidate Aiel support and hold his fragile alliances together, his companions face their own separate dangers across a splintering political landscape.
