Synopsis
The Harlequin is the fifteenth novel in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, opening about a week after the events of the previous book. Anita and Jean-Claude find their hard-won territory in St. Louis threatened by the arrival of the Harlequin, an ancient and secretive order of powerful vampire enforcers modeled loosely on commedia dell'arte performers, whose members are rumored to answer to authorities far above any local master. As the Harlequin's presence begins to sow discord and manipulate the emotions of those around them, Anita and Jean-Claude call on allies, including the assassin Edward, to help them determine what the group truly wants and whether it is operating within its usual bounds of authority.
