Synopsis
The Heir Apparent is the fourth novel in the Guardians of the Flame series. During an ambush by slave traders, Jason Cullinane's friend and mentor Valeran is killed, and Jason flees the fight in panic. Ashamed of his failure despite his family's reassurance, Jason sets out alone on a dangerous mission of his own: hunting down the leader of the Slavers' Guild who has sworn vengeance against his father, Karl Cullinane. When Karl learns what his son has undertaken, he leaves the settlement to try to bring Jason back safely, setting off a chain of complications that draws both of them, and the people around them, deeper into the guild's territory than either intended.
