Synopsis
The second of the Histories of King Kelson novels (Ballantine hardcover, 1985) covers a military campaign in mid-1124. King Kelson Haldane leads a Gwyneddan army against the Mearan Pretender Caitrin Quinnell and her ally Edmund Loris, a former archbishop who hates the Deryni. Kelson's forces capture and execute Prince Ithel and kill Sicard MacArdry, then rescue Bishop Duncan McLain from Loris's torture and execution. Kelson takes the rebel city of Laas, has Loris executed, and secures his authority over Meara, though he also orders the execution of Prince Judhael. The campaign takes place in the kingdom of Gwynedd, and the rebel strongholds Kelson overruns include Laas.
