Synopsis
About a year after Blackdog, the city of Marakand is falling under the sway of the Red Masks, an army that conquers its neighbours in the name of a mysterious ruler, the Lady of Marakand. Deyandara, a bastard heir and aspiring bard, travels in search of Ahjvar, a cursed assassin who is said to be the only one able to help her stand against them. Ahjvar is a cursed assassin who cannot die, and Deyandara's goddess offers him his own death as his reward. Many characters and plot threads weave around the two, and the story is the first half of a tale that continues in The Lady.
