Synopsis
The Price of Valour follows Winter Ihernglass after the upheavals of the previous volume, as she is placed in command of a newly formed all-female unit nicknamed the Girls' Own, no longer hiding behind a male disguise but instead facing open skepticism and institutional prejudice toward women in uniform. The kingdom of Vordan, still unsettled after its recent political upheaval, contends with the growing influence of the deputy-general Maurisk, whose rising power begins to strain the fragile new order at home. As Winter's battalion is drawn into siege warfare on a hostile front, tensions in the capital mount alongside the military campaign, with political distrust threatening to unravel the fragile peace the revolution was meant to secure. The volume follows these parallel struggles, on the battlefield and within Vordan's government, as both edge toward a breaking point.
