Synopsis
This novel weaves together several threads within the Black Jewels world. A nobleman named Dillon seeks to rebuild his damaged reputation by pursuing a handfast marriage to Jillian, an Eyrien witch, but underestimates both her ties and the protectiveness of the powerful Warlord Prince Lucivar Yaslana. At the same time, the marriage between Daemon Sadi and Surreal begins to fracture as Daemon suppresses his true nature to shield his wife, putting his own mind at risk in ways that may require intervention from Witch, a Queen no longer present in any realm. As Jillian navigates new feelings for Dillon and Daemon and Surreal face mounting strain, Lucivar works to keep the people he loves from harming one another, all under the shadow of the idea that power, like love, always carries a cost.
