Synopsis
The story leaps forward two hundred and fifty years from the earlier books, revealing a Girdlegard now dominated by the Albae under the rule of a powerful emperor, with most of the dwarf kingdoms either conquered outright or driven underground to survive. Into this occupied land appears a mysterious armored dwarf warrior carrying the legendary weapon once wielded by the hero Tungdil, raising hope, and doubt, that the old hero has somehow returned after so many generations. As word of this warrior spreads, the remaining free dwarves and other oppressed peoples must decide whether to risk everything on the possibility that their ancient champion has come back to lead them against their occupiers. The book follows the early stirrings of resistance as this new figure begins to make his presence known across the conquered land.
