Synopsis

Continuing the Traitor Spy trilogy roughly a generation after the original Black Magician books, this novel follows three interwoven storylines. Lorkin, now living among the Sachakan rebels known as the Traitors, tries to learn their closely guarded magical practices, but finds them reluctant to share their knowledge even when he offers his own Healing skills in exchange, hinting that they may have larger ambitions of their own. In Imardin, Sonea pursues a rogue figure whose grip on the city's criminal underworld proves far more extensive than expected, with his one apparent vulnerability tied to his imprisoned mother. In Sachaka, Dannyl's diplomatic standing suffers because of Lorkin's continued association with the Traitors, while the arrival of a new Elyne Ambassador with a personal history to Dannyl further complicates his position, and within the Guild itself two unexpected novices emerge as a new source of internal tension.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Traitor Spy Trilogy): Direct sequel trilogy to The Black Magician Trilogy, set roughly 20 years later; the author's own reading-order page requires Black Magician to be read first.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
