Synopsis

The Sapphire Rose concludes David Eddings's Elenium trilogy, following on from the earlier volume The Ruby Knight. With the Bhelliom finally recovered, Sparhawk returns to cure Queen Ehlana of the poison and enchantment that have kept her suspended since the trilogy's opening, only to find that his gesture of devotion is misread by the newly revived queen as a formal proposal of marriage, complicating both his personal life and the kingdom's politics. Beyond the court, a far graver threat looms: the malevolent god Azash is moving against Elenia from the land of Zemoch, gathering forces for an invasion that could overwhelm the kingdom entirely. Sparhawk and his companions must prepare to carry the Bhelliom into hostile territory and confront Azash's army and its allies directly, aware that the artifact's power comes with risks few of them fully understand.

Notes

  • Year inferred from sequential logic and the Eddings bio's '1989-91' span; no standalone source independently confirmed this exact year.
  • From the series record (The Elenium): Credited to David Eddings solely on original editions (predates Leigh Eddings' 1995 crediting), author-credit fidelity rule.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Elenium: position 3 of 3: previous The Ruby Knight (1990)
  • Internal chronology, within The Elenium Universe: position 3 of 6: previous The Ruby Knight (1990) · next Domes of Fire (1992)
