Synopsis
Lynet is a sharp-tongued young noblewoman who wants to save her beautiful but vapid older sister, Lyonesse, from a bloodthirsty suitor who has besieged the family castle. She travels to Camelot to ask for a champion, and the only help on offer is a kitchen worker nicknamed Beaumains, who is plainly more than he seems, accompanied by a bumbling dwarf named Roger. As the odd party travels through a forest full of knights of every kind, Lynet takes lessons in sorcery and herb lore and slowly loses her romantic illusions about chivalry. The story retells the Arthurian tale of Gareth and Lynette with a dry, comic tone.
