Synopsis

The Sea of Monsters is the second novel in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. Now thirteen and adjusting to life as a demigod, Percy Jackson learns that Camp Half-Blood's magical protective barrier has been poisoned, leaving the camp defenseless against monstrous attack, and that only the legendary Golden Fleece can restore it. Complicating matters, Percy's loyal satyr friend Grover has been captured by the man-eating Cyclops Polyphemus while searching for the god Pan, and a rival demigod claims to know the Fleece's true location. Percy sets out with his friends Annabeth Chase and his newly discovered half-brother Tyson across a monster-infested stretch of ocean, racing a dangerous rival group of demigods to rescue Grover and recover the Fleece before Camp Half-Blood falls and Grover's fate is sealed.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
