Synopsis
Roughly three months after the events of the first Kane Chronicles novel, siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who have discovered they descend from a line of Egyptian pharaohs and magicians, take on a new mission for the House of Life: locating the three scrolls of the Book of Ra in order to wake the aging sun god and prevent the chaos serpent Apophis from destroying the world. Their search leads them to perilous locations including the Brooklyn Museum, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, and the Valley of the Golden Mummies, where they face divine guardians and hostile spirits. Complicating their quest is Vladimir Menshikov, a magician who has willingly bound himself to Apophis's service, along with signs that not everyone within the House of Life can be trusted.
