Synopsis

The next installment of the Shamer Chronicles follows Dina after the events at Dunark Castle, when Sezuan, a man possessing what is known as the Serpent Gift, a power of deception and illusion, arrives and reveals himself to be her father, come to claim her. His arrival throws Dina's family into danger and forces them to flee, as Sezuan's own enemies and the consequences of his manipulative nature catch up with them on the road. Dina, still coming to terms with her Shamer ability to see through lies and draw out hidden shame, must learn to recognize and resist her father's gift for deceit even as she is drawn closer to him, testing how much of her own power she can use to protect herself and her family from the dangers his return has brought.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
