Synopsis
The seventh and final novel of the Death Gate Cycle picks up the story of Haplo, a Patryn agent of the sorcerer-lord Lord Xar, and Alfred, a secretive Sartan, as their long rivalry gives way to uneasy cooperation. Having witnessed the ruin left by the war between their two magical peoples across the cycle's earlier worlds, the two travel to Abarrach, the realm of stone and death, accompanied by Haplo's wife Marit. There they must reach the Chamber of the Damned, said to house the seventh and final of the great Gates linking the shattered worlds the Sartan once sundered. Reopening or sealing this last Gate could reunite or permanently divide the scattered peoples of Arianus, Pryan, Abarrach and Chelestra.
