Tracy Hickman is an American author and game designer born November 26, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, who graduated from Provo High School in 1977 and attended Brigham Young University, where he has said he nearly failed his own creative writing course. He served an LDS mission in Hawaii and Indonesia from 1975 to 1977 and held various jobs, including supermarket stocker, movie projectionist, theater manager, and drill press operator, before joining TSR, Inc. in 1982. At TSR he designed the acclaimed Ravenloft module (1983) and the Desert of Desolation module series, and co-authored the original Dragonlance Chronicles with Margaret Weis, work that helped establish the Dragonlance setting as one of the best-selling franchises in fantasy gaming fiction. He left TSR in 1987 and has since authored or co-authored more than sixty books spanning fantasy, science fiction, and tabletop gaming, including the solo novel The Immortals (1996) and numerous projects co-written with his wife, Laura Curtis Hickman, whom he married in 1977. In 2002 he was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame for Dragonlance's impact on the industry, and in 1999 Pyramid magazine named him among the millennium's most influential figures in gaming fiction. He resides in St. George, Utah, and remains active in the LDS Church.
