Synopsis
After the overwhelming defeat of their tribes at the hands of Quar's forces, Khardan and Zohra find themselves prisoners of the disciples of that evil god, held captive and in danger of losing their honor, their lives, and their very souls to their captors' fanatical devotion. Separated from most of their people and from the wizard Mathew, the once-feuding husband and wife must find a way to survive imprisonment among religious zealots who see them as little more than instruments to be broken or sacrificed in service of Quar's ambitions. As Khardan and Zohra endure trials that test both their bodies and their consciences, the marriage that began as an unwanted political arrangement is pushed toward a very different kind of reckoning under the pressure of captivity.
