Synopsis
Six months after the disaster known as the Gutter Miracle, Guerdon's New City has become a refuge for criminals and refugees, and the city is trying to stay neutral while a war of the gods rages around it. Rumours say a weapon able to destroy a god lies buried beneath its streets, and agents from two rival sides arrive to find it. Eladora, a supporting character from The Gutter Prayer, is thrust into the spotlight. Terevant, the lesser-known younger brother of a famous leader, is summoned to investigate the murder of an ambassador. A shapeshifting spy brings a boy with a link to a spider god into the city. Their separate stories begin to converge.
