Synopsis
The Shining Ones continues David Eddings's Tamuli trilogy, picking up after the earlier volume Domes of Fire. Having arrived in the Tamul Empire and confirmed that the supernatural disturbances plaguing the region are no mere local nuisance, Sparhawk and his companions work alongside the enigmatic Shining Ones, an ancient and powerful people native to the empire, in an effort to identify and contain the dangers threatening Matherion and the surrounding territories. As their investigation deepens, it becomes clear that the troubles they have witnessed so far are only the visible edge of a much larger conspiracy directed by hidden enemies, and Sparhawk is forced to reckon with the prospect of reclaiming the Bhelliom, the artifact he had hoped never to need again, in order to meet the growing threat.
