Synopsis
Magnus Chase and his crew embark on a perilous sea journey to the frozen realms of Niflheim and Jotunheim in pursuit of one of Asgard's greatest looming threats. To stand any chance of success, the group must locate a legendary mead capable of giving Magnus the strength and cunning needed to eventually face off against the trickster god Loki, gathering magical artifacts and confronting hostile giants along the way. As the voyage tests both Magnus's growing command of his divine heritage and the loyalty of his unusual crew of demigods and other beings, the stakes of the coming confrontation with Loki become increasingly clear to everyone aboard.

Notes
- From the series record (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard): Clean linear trilogy, Norse-mythology continuity. Magnus Chase is established as Annabeth Chase's first cousin, and Percy Jackson makes a direct in-novel cameo in The Ship of the Dead; a closer, in-text crossover tie to Camp Half-Blood than Kane Chronicles has (see admitting decision).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: position 3 of 3: previous The Hammer of Thor (2016)
- Internal chronology, within The Riordanverse: position 9 of 25: previous The Serpent's Shadow (2012) · next The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008)
