Synopsis
Sal’s life has been thrown into turmoil. Homeless, on the run from more than one pursuer and haunted by a past he never suspected he had, he is not sure where he is going, but his friend Shilly knows exactly what she wants: to find Van Haasteren, the old teacher of her own teacher Lodo, and learn from him. That means heading north to the Interior, where Sal’s mother was born, along the dangerous Old Line through rugged mountain country. With the Sky Warden Shom Behenna close behind, they must risk everything to reach the Divide and cross to the other side, without knowing whether the Stone Mages will help them when they get there.
