Synopsis
The Tapestry of Fate, the second novel in the Amina al-Sirafi series, finds the retired pirate captain settled into a steadier rhythm, sailing occasional errands for a council of immortal beings called the peris in exchange for being left alone with her daughter, Marjana. That fragile arrangement is threatened when Amina's magical, shapeshifting husband, Raksh, provokes a conflict with the peri council, leaving Amina to answer for it. To make amends, the peris send her on a mission that even they consider close to impossible: travel to a remote island ruled by a formidable sorceress and steal from her a spindle said to be capable of rewriting fate itself, a place from which almost no one returns. Amina must leave Marjana behind to undertake the voyage, straining her relationship with her daughter, as the mission quickly proves far more treacherous than a simple theft.
