Synopsis
The sixth novel of the main Witcher saga picks up with the Continent engulfed in war between the Nilfgaardian Empire and the Northern Kingdoms, while Ciri, grievously wounded, is taken in by an elderly hermit and former scholar named Vysogota in a remote swamp. As she recovers, she recounts to him her recent ordeal traveling with a band of young outlaws known as the Rats, and her subsequent capture by the ruthless bounty hunter Bonhart, who forces her into brutal gladiatorial combat. Believing Geralt and Yennefer dead, she resolves to strike out alone toward the elven tower of Tor Zireael. Meanwhile Geralt, accompanied by Dandelion, the archer Milva, the vampire Regis, and the soldier Cahir, presses through hostile territory in search of her, guided by fragments of prophecy and dogged by rival factions.
