Synopsis

Following the events of the first book, two orc armies march northward against the dwarf kingdoms of Girdlegard even as internal conflicts continue to divide the dwarves from within. Tungdil, now recognized as a hero among his people, encounters a group of free dwarves living outside the traditional clan structure and learns that a place called the Black Chasm conceals terrible secrets connected to the wider threat facing the land. Political intrigue and betrayal spread through the dwarf kingdoms, straining the fragile unity among the five clans just as they need to stand together most. Tungdil must work to hold his allies together and uncover the truth behind the Black Chasm while the orc invasion continues to press in on Girdlegard's borders.
