Synopsis
The second novel of the Nampeshiweisit series picks up after Anequs has completed her first year at a dragon academy, where she earned academic honors despite her professors' early doubts. She and her dragon Kasaqua travel home to Masquapaug for summer break, accompanied by her fellow native student Theod, expecting a period of rest after a difficult first year away. The visit turns tense when an Anglish military presence arrives on Masquapaug for the first time, threatening the island's independence. Anequs, committed to defending her people's right to govern themselves and live by their own customs without Anglish interference, finds herself at the center of a confrontation between her community and the colonial authorities, one with the potential to escalate far beyond a local dispute.
