Synopsis

In the second Capitale du Sud novel, protagonist Nox now owns the Saint-Vivant shop and has separated himself from the Caouane household that raised him, only to become entangled in a conspiracy targeting Duke Servaint, the very man who adopted him as a child. The conspirators demand that Nox act as the instrument of the Duke's assassination, with the fate of the city of Gemina itself hanging on his decision. Torn between personal loyalty to his adoptive father and a sense of obligation to the wider good the conspirators claim to serve, Nox must navigate a plot that forces him to reckon with who he has become since leaving the Caouane house behind.
