Synopsis

The once green fields of Thay lie in war-torn ruins and its once living people are undead. Its exiled council of wizards, masters of no more than their beaten army, watch from distant shores as the realm descends into chaos, while the brilliant necromancer who drove them out, Szass Tam, now King of Thay, appears to have gone insane, and prepares a great magical ritual that they cannot allow him to complete. Nearly a century after he seized power, Aoth, Bareris and their allies learn that the lich means to destroy the whole world and remake it, and the survivors must band together to stop him. The conclusion of the Haunted Lands trilogy.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Internal chronology, within Forgotten Realms: position 143 of 215: previous The Emerald Scepter (2005) · next Cry of the Ghost Wolf (2011)
