Synopsis
Valour and Vanity, published by Mary Robinette Kowal in 2014, continues the Glamourist Histories. Jane and Vincent travel to Murano, near Venice, intending to study glassblowing techniques they hope to combine with their glamour work, but their ship is attacked by Barbary corsairs en route, leaving them robbed of nearly everything they own by the time they reach Italy. Arriving in Venice destitute and with no easy way to recover what they lost, Vincent devises an audacious scheme to reclaim their fortunes, one that draws the couple into a world of deception and improvisation far removed from their usual respectable circles. As Jane and Vincent lean on each other to survive sudden poverty in a foreign city, the plan increasingly demands they become as skilled at misdirection as they are at magic.
