Synopsis
Without a Summer, published by Mary Robinette Kowal in 2013, continues the Glamourist Histories, set during the historical Year Without a Summer. Jane and Vincent return to Jane's family home at Long Parkmeade, where unseasonably cold weather has damaged the harvest and left her father anxious about the effect on younger sister Melody's marriage prospects. A glamour commission takes the family to London, where Melody hopes the social season will improve her romantic fortunes, but the city is consumed instead by anxiety over failing crops and unrest among unemployed laborers, with riots already breaking out in northern England. Beyond their hopes of matchmaking for Melody, Jane and Vincent find themselves drawn into a crisis of far greater, and more dangerous, consequence than either had anticipated when they left home.
