Synopsis
When the elderly witch Desiderata Hollow dies, she leaves her magic wand to young witch Magrat Garlick, along with the unwanted role of fairy godmother to a servant girl named Emberella in the distant city of Genua. Having received no real training, Magrat finds that nearly everything she tries to enchant with the wand turns into a pumpkin instead. The trouble deepens when it emerges that another, far more experienced fairy godmother in Genua has already transformed the city's ruler into a frog and intends to force Emberella into marrying him regardless, convinced that this will produce the storybook "happy ending" she believes fairy tales demand.
